We now teach Yoga in two locations: Brantford and Hagersville.

Yoga is defined by The Yoga Sutras as "levelling the fluctuations of the mind-stuff" so that "one's true essence is realized". In other words, yoga is a path to inner stillness. Through cultivating a peaceful inner life (through lifestyle choices, respecting the body, ethical living, and personal reflection), the you that you really are - think of yourself when you've shared a fun time with loved ones - is how you are in every moment.

Although it is a natural state of being, it is not natural for us to live that way. It takes education, mentorship, and practice. Yoga is one path to living in joy. It offers suggestions and techniques without defining for anyone who they should be or how they should worship, if at all. Religious folks tell us they feel more connected to their higher power and the wisdom of their religions through yoga practice. People without a distinct spiritual practice or philosophy state that yoga has helped them know a deep, undefinable peace.

Historically, yoga was for the initiate only: one would study for years before the sage would impart wisdom. Early in the last century, The Yoga Institute of India found a means of sharing this wisdom with "householders": people who were not ashram initiates but were seeking enlightened living. Our mentor, Dr. Bob Butera, Founder of The YogaLife Institute, studied one-on-one for six months at The Yoga Institute and maintains his relationship with the institution today. This Classical lineage and pure teaching of yoga is reflected in Welkin YogaLife's approach and programs.

Yoga is an ancient practice designed to cultivate physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. It involves physical postures, breathing exercises, yoga philosophy, and meditation/concentration activities. There are many different paths of yoga. Each of us has individual needs and goals. At Welkin YogaLife, you are encouraged to experience yoga in your own way while practicing with the support of a community.

“On Feb 5/13, I had to have a tooth removed, and when at the Dentist, they informed me that 2 teeth needed to be removed today. Of course, fear sets in. During freezing and surgery (dental) I made myself aware of Breathing (as practiced in Yoga). It was amazing how this simple task got me through that 30 – 40 minutes of fear. It was truly amazing. It works!!“ By Susan Georgian.
