“I recommend the retreat experience to all yogis of any level. You get exactly what you need from it.”
TRANSITIONS:
We All Go Through Them.
We All Fear Some of Them.
But We Are Built and Wired For Them! with Staffan Elgelid
“I was amazed by the discovery of how my habitual movement patterns have limited my range in movement and created emotional blockages. Staffan’s kind and knowledgeable directed movement created opportunities for new-found freedom and both physical and emotional balance.” Tam H.
“It has made me more conscious and mindful of how I move, breathe, my attitudes, and how I can shift my perspective to adjust myself and break old habits. It is experience of learning everyone should have to help them live a full, healthy, happy life.” Cassandra C.
We go through lots of transitions in life. Transitions happen as we develop, age, change jobs, family status etc, but also from pose to pose and off the Yoga mat to the rest of our life.
How well do we transition? What habits hold us back from transitioning? How can we make our transitions more deliberate and graceful? And what in the world does anatomy and the nervous system have to do with all these transitions?!
As we transition from task to task or pose to pose we also go through transitions in our nervous system and anatomy. During my upcoming weekend intensive we will play with the transitions in ourselves at every possible level.
NO YOGA EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. The movements are simple and can be completed in a chair. If you are ready to transition more easily and with self-understanding, come ready to move and explore your transitions, habits, emotions, skeleton, and nervous system.
“It was a powerful process of developing awareness via movement, exploration, discussion, and reflection.” D. T.
LEARNING QUESTIONS:
What transitions am I going through daily, yearly, on the mat, in my relationships, at work?
Am I creating obstacles for myself?
What holds me back from making these transitions?
How can I use Yoga to transform my approach to transitions?
How is the skeleton and nervous system built/organized for transitions?
How can I use yoga poses to make any transition more elegant and courageous?
OR WE COULD COMBINE ALL THE QUESTIONS INTO:
Why are my habits holding me back from making healthy transitions?!
“I learned so much about how my body works and also how to make changes to be more aware! Thank you.”
OBJECTIVES:
Learning how to use Yoga to ease gracefully through all aspects of life.
Understand how the anatomical system is really a system of transitions.
Understand how we create our own obstacles to transitions and how that holds us back.
Understand how we can transition without losing our essence, or in anatomical terms:
Understand how a controllable, movable pelvis (our essence) allows movement to transition to a multitude of life expressions.
“I got more from this experience than I anticipated - fun, self-reflective, observative, full of awareness in body & mind. I got more courage to explore along with the community new ways to appreciate and perform self-care.”
“My home practice and yoga teaching will definitely include a lot more experimentation – awareness increased beyond what I already am doing. Wonderful experience tying in movement and emotions through experiencing it and sharing. Staffan is an understanding teacher.” R. Y.
“Engaging, shook up my ‘fixed’ way of thinking about movement in asana/life.”
